What to prepare before AC installation

A little preparation can reduce confusion on installation day. Review the unit positions, drain, power and work route in advance.

In brief

Plan indoor airflow, outdoor-unit ventilation and service access, drainage, electrical checks, the copper-pipe route and technician access. Confirm what the quotation includes and any additional charges.

1. Let the indoor unit distribute air across the room

Consider a position where furniture, curtains, beams or partitions will not block the airflow. Leave practical access for cleaning and future service. Confirm the final position using the model instructions and the actual site.

2. Give the outdoor unit ventilation and service access

The outdoor unit needs to release heat. Discuss any enclosed location, weak mounting surface or height that could make future service difficult. Check the required clearances in the selected model’s Hitachi instructions.

3. Plan a safe drainage route

The drain pipe needs a continuous fall towards a safe outlet. Plan the route so a leak is less likely to damage a wall, furniture or the area below.

4. Ask a qualified electrician to check the power

The socket, wiring, protection and supply depend on the selected model and site. Do not apply one wire or MCB rating found online to every AC. Use a qualified electrician and follow Hitachi instructions.

5. Plan the copper-pipe route

The distance, bends, wall opening, pipe cover, insulation and work at height can change the work and cost. Reuse old copper piping only after its condition and specification are checked.

6. Prepare for installation day

  • Move fragile furniture, curtains and important items away from the work area.
  • Arrange access and permissions for a balcony, terrace or shaft.
  • Keep the AC invoice, quotation, model details and accessory list ready.
  • Tell the technician about known concealed wiring or pipes.
  • Agree the indoor and outdoor positions and visible piping before work begins.

Questions to ask before work starts

  1. Which installation work and materials are included in the quotation?
  2. How are extra copper pipe, drain pipe, stand, core cutting, civil work or electrical work charged?
  3. Is any special arrangement needed to access the outdoor unit?
  4. What checks and information will be provided after the work is complete?
Safety: Do not open an electrical cover, refrigerant pipe or sealed part yourself. Changing wiring or cutting piping can be dangerous. Use a qualified technician and follow the model-specific Hitachi instructions.
